Sprout, Sportacus kick off Summer Olympics, Let’s Move! with Good Sport Week

Sportacus will be hanging out with Chica the Chicken this week as part of Good Sport Week on Sprout (July 23-27), which means my family will be watching (and moving along!)

The Sprout network is taking the week to get kids moving and ready for the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in London, which begin July 27.  The “Sunny Side Up Show” will have host Chica interviewing Olympians such as Misty May and Kerri Walsh, according to Sprout.  Chica will also be preparing for the “Chicalympic Games.”

Let’s Move! with Sportacus, Chica, and First Lady Michelle Obama.

On Friday, Sportacus from “LazyTown” will make a special visit to the barn to teach Sean and Chica his super-hero moves.  Sportacus will also take part in a jumping competition with Chica (I’m sure my son will be jumping along, too!), according to Sprout.

Let’s Move! Sprout, and “LazyTown” teamed up with First Lady Michelle Obama to help promote active healthy lifestyles for preschoolers.  There are three new Let’s Move! public service announcements (PSAs), which were reportedly filmed in the East Room of The White House.  The PSAs feature First Lady Michelle Obama, Chica, and Sportacus.

“Kids need 60 minutes of physical activity each day to grow up healthy and strong,” said First Lady Michelle Obama, according to a press release.  “That’s why it’s so important that kids get an early start on being active.  Sportacus, Chica, and all their friends at Sprout are helping us inspire our kids to get moving at an early age and have fun doing it, which will help them build good habits to last a lifetime.”

My son loves Sportacus and “LazyTown” (in case you haven’t seen any of my previous stories about Sportacus, check below), and my husband and I love the good influence of staying healthy and active that the show provides.  So I’m really excited about the Let’s Move campaign and its efforts to keep kids moving and healthy.

“It was a special honor to be part of the PSAs with the First Lady,” said Magnus Scheving, the founder and star of “LazyTown” (Sportacus).  “As someone who has been working for almost twenty years to motivate children to lead healthier lifestyles, I’m of the firm belief that good eating and exercising habits need to start as early as possible.  Mrs. Obama is very sincere in her mission to help kids and families become more active.”

A “LazyTown” marathon will air this Friday, July 27, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET on Sprout (so we better get our Tivo ready!)  “LazyTown” airs daily on Sprout at 2 p.m. ET, and also airs Saturdays as part of the new NBC Kids block (check local listings).

“The Sunny Side Up Show” airs daily 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET on the Sprout network.
