Our moment with Sportacus from ‘LazyTown’

Today we packed up some sports candy (bananas, apples) and hit the road to meet Sportacus from “LazyTown!”

Our moment with Sportacus

Sportacus, Nico, and I showing off our “muscles!”

My son, Nico, 4, is a huge fan of the TV series “LazyTown.” So his mommy (that would be me) is always looking up stuff online about the show for him, and we scored today with a face-to-face meeting.  We met the “American” Sportacus (the real Sportacus, Magnus Scheving, is busy filming season three of the show in Iceland right now! More about that later in this post!) at a Meijer store.  The campaign Produce for Kids (with Sprout network and “LazyTown”) had an event with fruit wraps, coloring books, and of course, Sportacus!

Sportacus was great with the kids and had some awesome moves. His grand entrance had him walking on his hands down a grocery aisle, which was very cool to see in-person.  He took photos with the kids (I was armed with my camera, of course!) and signed autographs. He also performed his signature moves with jumps, swooshes, and “muscles!”

My husband, son, and I had a great time. We left the store with some great photos, memories, and fruit (sports candy) wraps to go.

We have had quite a bit of “LazyTown” activity around our house the past few months.  My son loves to watch the show on Sprout network, which is actually re-runs from when the show aired on U.S. TV in 2004-2007.  My nephew used to watch it and now my son has carried on the family tradition.  My nephew and my son are both very active, play soccer, and they eat very healthy.  I would say “LazyTown” is/was a great influence on both of them.

(In case you missed it: Sportacus … A true superhero)

So recently, I “Tweeted” with Magnus Scheving, who plays Sportacus on the show and is the creator and CEO of “LazyTown.”  He hooked me up with contact information for Suzanne at “LazyTown” PR, and she has been awesome! She had Magnus sign a personalized autograph for my son and sent it to us in the mail (postmarked from Iceland, way cool!)  And we also went to Sesame Place in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago to see “LazyTown” live at one of the theme park’s theaters. The “American” Sportacus, Stephanie, and Robbie Rotten were there (and Ziggy, too, which was probably his puppet double lol) and did a great job. We sang along to the songs and had a fun day (if you’ve never been to Sesame Place, you must check it out) at the park.

My son just had his 4th birthday party, too, which was of course “LazyTown”-themed.  We had sports candy, Sportacus balloons, soccer ball cupcakes, and held the party at a kids indoor play center, so everyone was on the move.

I also have been in the loop (thanks to Suzanne in PR) about upcoming “LazyTown” projects. The new season is filming in Iceland right now, with a new Stephanie (Chloe Lang), since the previous one (Juliana Rose Maurielo) grew up.  The episodes are scheduled to air this summer on NBC, but I will keep everyone updated as I get more details.

The new season means new “stuff,” so Americans will once again be able to find “LazyTown” products on U.S. store shelves (I have been shopping online).  The products will include some healthy food/snacks, which will be great for our family.  We are looking forward to more “LazyTown” in the near future!
